Elite Pet Care

1-2-1 Dog and Puppy Training

Specialising in Cockapoos & Doodles

My name is Marion and my greatest passion in life is my love of animals. I was born and brought up on a farm in Ayrshire and my whole life has been about animals, great and small. Before I began working with dogs, my earlier years were spent with horses; with most weekends being spent competing in local showjumping and cross-country events with my own ex-racehorse, Pam.

It’s no secret that I love dogs!! I set up Elite Pet Care back in 2011 and it very quickly became a busy dog walking and pet sitting business. Over those years I would often come across dogs with lots of training and behaviour issues. But at that time, I didn’t know how to help, and that frustrated me a lot!

Then in 2018 I adopted my fabulous cockapoo, Benji, and my life changed forever.

It’s funny, when people meet Benji we always receive lots of compliments on how well behaved he is, how happy he is, and the amazing bond that he and I have.

Please believe me when I say, it wasn’t always like that!!!

Me and Benji Dartmoor

When Benji arrived with me he had:

  • No Recall.
  • He already had a history of running off to do his own thing; both with his previous owner and then with me. He would do everything in his power not to be caught. He was very unpredictable, and that upset me so much.
  • He would pull like a train on his lead, it was as if I didn’t even exist sometimes.
  • Some days he just wouldn’t do a single thing I asked.
  • He would steal things and not give them back.
  • He detested being brushed (which was not handy with his cockapoo coat which needs lots of care)
  • He would bark at every single noise he heard.
  • And he struggled to be left alone for more than 30 seconds.

I became deflated, frustrated and really upset that this dog that I loved so very much was causing me so much distress and anxiety.

However, being someone who likes to see the glass as being half full, I decided that now was the time to fulfil the passion that had been in me so long to become a dog trainer.

Me and Benji Dartmoor

I gained recognised qualifications, worked with professionals in the field, read books and attended numerous courses and webinars.

Slowly but surely our relationship changed from dog and guardian into a beautiful partnership. Benji wanted to do things with me, and for me. We have fun, an awesome partnership and I have a dog that everyone thinks is easy and well behaved, which I do!  But the time, effort, sweat and tears getting there was definitely a labour of love.

Over the past 12 years I have worked with numerous Cockapoos, Cavapoos and Labradoodles; in both a dog walking and a training capacity. I know and love these breeds so well that specialising in working with them and helping their dog parents to understand them better is without doubt my passion .

I am an Accredited Dog Trainer with both the Professional Association of Canine Trainers (PACT) and the Association of Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC), which is a highly recognised qualification in our industry.  I was also lucky enough to be awarded one of the Three Best Rated Dog Trainers in West Lothian at their latest awards.

In four short weeks Marion through her training support helped transform Archie our Cockerpoo. She provided us with skills and knowledge to enable us to manage Archie and especially reduce periods of disconnect. We found Marion's friendly manner infectious and she helped support with easy to understand excercise which we could practice ourselves. We cannot thanks Marion enough. The onus is now on us to keep practicing the skills she shared.

What a find. Marion was really friendly and so helpful in training our dog. He was stressed and found it stressful even leaving the house. We had 4 sessions with Marion and Colin is now super happy to leave the house and really enjoys the training activity we still do with him.
Couldn’t have asked for a better trainer. Marion kept in touch and provided outputs by email of the activity that was covered in every session including helpful videos to refer to. AMAZING!

Marion helped me manage some really difficult behaviors that my cockapoo Reggie had. Her knowledge is incredible and she gave me the tools I needed to help. She was always available for chats in between sessions nothing was a bother. The change in my dogs behavior is incredible. I can’t recommend highly enough.

We contacted Marion for help with our pup Stanley, who was over excited with anything that moved during his walks. Walking him had become an absolute nightmare and something that we dreaded. Marion took time to listen and observe and formulate a plan specifically around Stanley's needs. Her expertise, patience, creativity, reassurance and support gave us the confidence and energy to put the hard work in. In between sessions Marion provided us with detailed reports and she responded quickly to any emails or texts.
Seeing Stanley improve and grow in confidence outside the home has been amazing!
It is obvious that Marion loves her job and we loved working with her!
We highly recommend Elite Pet Care.

I contacted Marion as our pup, Maggie, was going into adolescence and there were a couple of challenging behaviours I wanted help with.
I’m so glad to have found Marion and was so impressed with the amount included within the training, from the consultation call before the initial session and receiving detailed notes after each lesson, which is great to refer back to, along with checking in with us between lessons to make sure things are going ok.
I loved how the training was personalised to suit Maggie’s needs.
Maggie took to Marion straight away. Marion has lovely calm approach to lessons and we learnt so much over just 4 lessons. Sad they came to an end but it done wonders for Maggie.
I would highly recommend Marion. Best trainer by far! ⭐️

As first time dog owners we were relieved when we thought we had survived the initial puppy phase with our wee cockapoo, Charlie. We were not prepared for the ‘adolescent’ phase and the challenge that such an excited young pup would pose. Marion at Elite Pet Care came highly recommended to us through a neighbour that knew of her work, specifically with cockapoos. We had an initial telephone call to discuss what we were struggling with - Marion put us at ease and confirmed she thought she would be able to help with all our issues. From our first session, it was clear we had made the right choice of trainer – Marion has such a calm and caring nature and it was lovely to see how Charlie responded to her immediately. She helped us understand the way Charlie thinks and how he experiences the world, strengthening our bond with him. The training techniques put in place really made a difference and Marion’s post-session notes and training videos were detailed and easy to follow. We particularly appreciated Marion explaining what the training was expected to achieve and how it would develop over time. Marion made herself available for any questions/help between sessions and was also happy to help us with any additional issues that arose. Along with the training techniques, Marion was so supportive and knew exactly when we needed a confidence boost – telling us how well we were doing and highlighting how far Charlie had come. We have definitely found puppy raising a challenge but couldn’t have imagined it without Marion’s help – she still checks in with us even though our sessions have ended to make sure Charlie is doing well. Marion comes highly recommended.

I booked 4 weeks 1-2-1 puppy training with Marion and it’s the best thing I could have done for my puppy Forrest. He’s learned so much in this time and loved every minute with Marion. She helped me with any questions I had and is such a lovely, kind woman to work with. I will be booking more sessions with her soon when we can get out walks as her knowledge has been invaluable and can’t wait to work with her again.

We completed a 4 session puppy training course with Marion for our Poochon puppy Odie and it was massively helpful.

Marion helped teach us some very important commands and tricks which have helped Odie develop mentally and physically.

We particularly enjoyed the outside training which involved getting him used to other dogs and his surroundings as well as teaching us good leash habits.

She was always on hand to offer advice if we had any queries and she built a great rapport with him. I would recommend to anyone looking to set their puppy up for adulthood.

Marion is absolutely brilliant. We had four training sessions with Her for our Cockapoo and they were great. Aoife now does everything that we want Her to do and is such a clever dog that She soaks in training like a sponge. We had our last dog at training classes and He just forgot everything He had learned when We left. Marion is such a calm and lovely person and the Pup responded to this right away. I cannot recommend Marion highly enough. I never thought that the Pup would learn so much so fast. I love the fact that all information given is then sent by email and videos showing exactly what to do. This allows You to check that You are doing things correctly if You forget something or just want to refresh Your memory on commands that Marion has worked on. If You are looking for a great trainer look no further than Marion She is so calm and relaxed so the pup and owner are the same way. Thank You Marion .
